Any fans? I'm about to venture into his neck of the generally 9 hour + long film woods with Death in the Land of Encantos.

Did you get Death in the Land of Encantos from KG?
I haven't seen any of his films but they interest me greatly.

Batang West Side 10
Melancholia 10
Evolution of a Filipino Family 8.5
Hesus Rebolusyonaryo 8

Without a doubt, he is one of the greatest artists at present. His works are very difficult - and it's not just the mammoth length. but the dense political overtones - but the rewards reaped from the experience has a transformative power. I was changed after seeing Batang West Side. I have had the blessed opportunity to meet Lav in person, (I wrote a blurb here) and he always has something illuminating to say, after meeting him and listening to him speak I felt a little wiser. He has left a bad impression on the censors around here; I got to feel the wrath of those authorities when I had the chance to watch Encantos on the big screen and I found out that the censors had canceled the special screening (once again I wrote something here). So whenever one of Lav's films is deemed fit to show in the cinemas, it becomes something of a major event within the art community - at least that's what I've heard from one of Lav's acquaintances. It is a joy that most of his films are made available (unfortunately, his greatest achievement, Batang West Side, is far from making itself available), and I offer my highest recommendations to those who dare enter the world of Lav Diaz. A world where you may never get out of.

So got my copy of Melancholia off KG.
Question - I'm all for art films and whatnot but my copy has a little white burnout type of thing at the top
during the entire movie. Is this supposed to be there? I don't think it is because the trailers on youtube
don't show it. What issss it?

ah man.....that suuuckkss. dang it!!!!!! must find....fresh.....copy.......nowwwww!!!!

the other thing about the film on KG is it is hardsubbed in some language other than english.
The links to the english subtitles don't work. I don't know what's going on with that.
Why can't a brother just get a good copy of this film. I would kill to know what they are saying.
Do i have to learn this language? Why give links to subs that don't work? oy vey.

You know Sean P, a now inactive TLC-user? He used to have tons of invites to give away, maybe ask him? Or Ally or somebody else, there must be invites around here.

Yeah, finally got
Dead In The Land of Encantos
Same white burnout mark.
I don't know but I'm going to toss around the theory that however these films got leaked, they were leaked
by someone in the Diaz camp that made sure the was some sort of "flaw". i.e. - like
getting a screener copy of an oscar film (for your consideration)...
guess it's better than nothing.

I don't know what you are doing wrong the the subs work just find for me.

And about that white mark at the top right of the screen, that's part of the television channel icon where it was shown, Rai Tre, an italian channel, which is where they got their copy at and also why there are italian subtitles.
