Still one of my favorite lists around. I mean, I think half of these are in my own list and I love pretty much everything else I've seen. *cheers*

I CAN'T WAIT to see your #2!

Hurray for Before the Revolution!
blog - music - movies
Peace of mind. A mellow life. Crunk music. Investing in spy equipment and communist memorabilia. Having dance contests with myself. Placing last in the local triathlon. All of these things, plus a firm belief in the Lord.

Excellent list, David. I need to see some Vigo and Olmi.

My favourite Almodóvar is also Carne Tremula.

A lot of good stuff here.

– I've been meaning to rewatch this for years. Subsequent limited exposure to Fellini has made it less than a priority though, i have to say.
Pierrot le fou – Another one i should probably rewatch. I liked it a lot when i first saw it though, one of my favorite Godards to date.
L'Atalante – I should get around to seeing this eventually.
Persona – Need to see, as much as i've disliked Bergman so far. I feel like this one might change my mind on him, if any film will.
Faces – Seemed a bit unevolved than latter Cassavetes to me when i first saw it. I should watch it again one of these days though, drunk preferably.
Punch Drunk Love:praise:
Bad Timing:praise: Roeg was the greatest.
Mon oncle:shrug:
I Fidanzati:praise:
Il deserto rosso:praise:
Die bitteren Tränen der Petra von Kant:D Too talky and theatrical to be top-tier Fassbinder, for me.
Zerkalo:D I think i may grow to appreciate this more some day.
Sunrise – I should probably see this at some point...
Prima della rivoluzione – Definitely need to see this one.
Palombella rossa -
Umberto D – I'll get to this eventually too...
Days of Heaven:mrgreen: Probably my least-favorite Malick, but still great...
Tokyo Monogatari:D
The Gold Rush:shrug:
Hiroshima mon amour:D
Sans soleil:praise:
The Saragossa Manuscript:shrug:
Crimes & Misdemeanors:shrug:
Chung hing sam lam:praise:
Monty Python's The Meaning of Life - :|
Les petites Fugues:shrug:
Die Büchse der Pandora:shrug:
Vredens Dag:shrug:
Suna no onna:mrgreen:
El Espíritu de la Colmena:D
Cléo de 5 à 7 – Need to see this.
Im Lauf der Zeit – Definitely need to see this.
Les Arpenteurs:shrug:
Vtackovia, siroty a blazni -
Aguirre, der Zorn Gottes:D
La science des rêves:shrug:
Belle de Jour – I should probably rewatch this, it's been a while...
Morocco:shrug:
Accattone:mrgreen:
Mes nuits sont plus belles que vos jours -
Dr. Strangelove:|
Underground:shrug:
I hired a contract killer:shrug: I should be seeing some earlier Kaurismaki soon though.
Tirez sur le pianiste – I'll get around to this eventually...
Freaks:) I'd like this a lot more if it didn't betray itself with such a silly, conventional plot.
I Pugni in tasca:shrug:
Carne trémula:shrug:
Céline et Julie vont en bateau:shrug:
Stranger than Paradise – Didn't like this when i saw it. Maybe i'd like it more now?
3 Women:D

Thanks everybody! *cheers*

Lauren: You know I can't wait to hear your reaction on Pierrot! You will see it in cinema, right? I've seen it once in cinema, and it's quite an experience, as (especially) all color CinemaScope Godards are.

Juan: Thanks for pointing out the screen grabs, it took me a hell of a long time to find them! It's actually the only reason why I didn't post my list here before, I didn't want to add the usual pictures everybody knows (though I had to with some films...). As I don't own all my favorite films on dvd, I finally gathered everything on the internet.

Jake: Thanks for your review! You should definitely see L'Atalante, Persona (that's a must), Prima della rivoluzione (I'm pretty sure you'll like that one), Im Lauf der Zeit (and that one), some Kaurismäkis (the eclipse box is a very good place to start imo) and I Pugni in tasca.

well of course inevitably there are a few i'm not too keen on and a few i've not seen, but lots of greats- Zerkalo, Sunrise, Celine + Julie, L'Atalante, Tokyo Story, Hiroshima mon Amour, Spirit of the Beehive, Pierrot le Fou, 8 1/2, Persona, Kings of the Road, and The Gold Rush is my favourite Chaplin. So *thumbsup*

Once I finish watching it I'll tell you my impressions. :D

Yeah i have hesitations myself, despite repeated recommendations and praise. I'm not sure that long, deep-focus static shots of really deadpan slapstick humor is exactly my thing either. I know it's a horrible judgment to go by, but repeated viewings of clips on Youtube have left me unimpressed. Again, this is another film i think might really be a "have to see it in a theater" type of thing.

I even love deadpan humor (like Kitano), but this was really nothing for me. Maybe I'd like his other films more than Playtime.

Kitano isn't that deadpan, he's pretty silly a lot of the time actually. I think more of Tsai Ming-liang when i think of deadpan. The clips of Playtime i've seen sort of remind me of that, except i have no idea what i'm supposed to be looking at half the time. It actually kind of reminds me more of Syndromes and a Century than anything else, It seems like the sort of thing that could be really, really cool if i watched it properly, but i don't know... it could also just be watching static shots of people in big rooms for two hours...
