Ambient Music

Postby Carmelo » Fri Jun 26, 2009 2:38 am

I've been listening to Eno, Stars of the Lid, Biosphere and Esther Venrooy lately, good stuff.

this blog seems to have interesting stuff, but I've not explored it yet:

Tim Hecker

Those two Fripp & Eno albums from the 70s are also wonderful, if you don't have them yet (recently reissued).

yeah Tim Hecker is great. Harmony in Ultraviolet is one of my favorites.

I also like the Disintegration Loops from William Basinski but not as much as some of the others.

I have that Eno album but haven't got around to listening to it yet.

Thanks for the reply.

 by others I meant I prefer On Land, Music For Airports, Harmony in Ultraviolet, Substrata over it.

Really I haven't relistened to it since I got on my ambient music phase (its been about a year since I heard the loops), I'll start with #4 this week.

How about Cluster & Eno? I listened to that one for the first time last night. Roedelius also has some good ones with Tim Story.

And Gas, if you haven't heard yet.

boards of canada
universal studios florida
tim hecker (co-sign)
last days
belong
(certain) m83
eluvium (listen to 'taken' basically)

also, maybe try 'a warm place' by nine inch nails. it's basically a cover of bowie's crystal japan. 'the big ship' might be the best ambient track eno ever did.

Very good album in my opinion. Although it's not 100% pure ambient but still great.

I have phases where I listen to a lot of this type of music (usually winter time). Good recent stuff (some might be classified post-classical or whatever but who cares?):

Machinefabriek
Amplifier Machine
Deaf Center
The Boats
The Caretaker
Fennesz
Emeralds
Helios
Johan Johannsson
Library Tapes
Oren Ambarchi
Svarte Greiner
Philip Jeck
The Fun Years
Ezekiel Honig
Peter Broderick
Sylvain Chauveau
Taylor Deupree
Tape
Sumner McKane
Stephan Matheiu
Goldmund

Have fun!

I really like this especially Goldmund really. Is The Fun Years a friend's band or something?

I listened to a lot of the bands. Nice. :P
