BTW, we are getting so few votes in pre-20s years I suggest making a separate tournament (I can be one of the counters if you want) for these, say top 25 per person.

the reason we're getting so few is because we have some philistines in this forum. :banghead:

What if we voted up to 15 for film, and up to 10 in the subcategories, resulting (if vote count warrants) in consensus lists of 30 films and 10-15 elsewhere. Would that result in better or worse results, do you think?

Better!!! But in my opinion we should have as many performances as films.
Plus, I really think we should have a giant tournament for early years because 3 people voting for a year is kinda pathetic.

I agree with the inhuman. It's not that there is a ton of great movies from theses early years but not many I would rate as high as 8/10 where I personally draw the line if I should include a list (unless they are somehow otherwise awesome). If I had to just make a perhaps longer list of favorites the result would be more interesting and I bet more could contribute.

Yeah, I think that would be cool. I'll give that some thought and InHuman if you are interested I think I'll ask you to run it!
Where should we draw the line for early years, everything before 1920? I've seen so little a good cut-off doesn't really jump out at me, but that's a nice round number.

I would love to run it. Before 1920 sounds good to me, though we could also make 2 categories, as something like The Great Train Robbery will find it hard to compete with Intolerance, etc. Anyway, we have time to think about it, and I don't mind counting as much as is needed.

Maybe ties should actually be broken in favour of less seen films rather than more seen films? That would make a small difference, but it would help a bit against commonly named films
Or, maybe that's crazy, but looking at the alternative 2007 and 2008 polls I realised that rarely seen films profit from that approach as in this YC, you already don't give the film a chance by not seeing it, whereas in the alternative poll you could see it so the rating would be adjusted. Am I making sense?

I'm puttin' together some lists for your perusal, then on to a new round if all are game... starting perhaps midway through August, I think.

By the way, all (technical & uninteresting):

The top 100 lists are determined by adding points from each top ten list in every year. 3 pts to all #1s, 2 to all #2-5, 1 pt to #6-10. (Exceptions: nothing receiving a 3/1 vote or less in the top tens will get more than 1 point regardless of placement, and nothing with less than 2/2 will get any points.) The lists will be ordered by total points with first tiebreaker being total votes, same as the yearly top 10s. Further tiebreakers: number of #1 placings; total points earned in all top 10 lists. All ties will be broken.

Also, please note that InHuman is working on some great stuff for the films category for us, which he will present in due course! *thumbsup*
