Tokyo Sonata 9/10

I really enjoyed this. The composition (especially in the scenes taking place in the house, with the family) was pretty sweet. K. Kurosawa was definitely going for an Ozu feel with this film (there is a direct reference to Ozu in one scene in particular). I also noticed some references to The 400 Blows, Jeanne Dielman, and surprisingly enough, Jackie Brown. Two things - this film does make it seem like Japanese society is going down the shitter (I don't know how accurate that portrayal is). I also thought the ending was a little forced, but, overall, excellent formal filmmaking on K. Kurosawa's part.

Need to see that. I feel I should watch some of Kurosawa's horror shit first though.

Sartana is like a James Bond in the West, I've only seen one though.

Those are great for rewatches, watched the Ladies Man recently (finally getting into Jer Lewis) and already like to see it again; that damn house is amazing. Reminds me to rewatch Laura, it's been too long. I have to see Pickup on South Street asap.

I should rewatch Palm Beach Story.

Some more rewatches -

L'Atalante 9.0
Regular Lovers 9.5
JLG/JLG 9.5

Also, I saw Up at the theatre yesterday. It was cute - I liked the sentimental stuff.

I love this movie. It's really impossible to go wrong with Oates and Stanton in lead roles.

"L'Atlantte" is amazing. *happy* But JLG/JLG is one of the worst movies I've ever seen.
