Forget about it, I trust this review:

"A film that is much more interesting to read about than actually watch. Akerman takes "realism" to a new level, basically setting up a camera and observing a very lifeless, dull person for 200 minutes. "

I also like your list Lauren, even though i'm not a fan of the old hollywood, the rest is really close to my taste as well, intesting mix, and especially love your top picks. not a lot of people here have movies like Red Desert or Akerman on the very top, that more admirable and of course a fassy/schygulla fan too, yay ! :)

I was just about to say, it's easy to not watch old Hollywood films. Not a single Asian film on here. Tsk, tsk...

lauren, you can try all you want to deflect my pervings on you and your awesome taste by putting up a wigwam-baiting nerd-hottie like in the pic of Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, but ...i forgot what i was saying

I think this may be one of my favourite lists I have seen. I am very pleased to see these so high,
La Notte 1961, MICHELANGELO ANTONIONI
Red Desert 1964, MICHELANGELO ANTONIONI
Jules & Jim 1962, FRANCOIS TRUFFAUT
The Green Ray 1986, ERIC ROHMER
Vivre sa vie: Film en douze tableaux 1962, JEAN-LUC GODARD
L'Avventura 1960, MICHELANGELO ANTONIONI

Overall I think it is a very impressive list.

Great job

I'm afraid letting my top five drift and resettle is the most dislodging you can hope for -- and how that displeases you!

I always thought our taste in European film was pretty similar. I'm glad you posted your 500, I love mining it for recommendations!

Ya, 'cause I've only ever watched like five. That's a pretty good batting average though, eh?

 You know I have an agenda when I don't choose a Lauren-baiting red-haired old lady pic for a film like that.

With the help of IMDb, I've come up with this list. Apparently I've only seen three.

1 Ghostbusters
2 Indiana Jones & the Temple of Doom
3 Bless the Child

My first thoughts while looking at your list: Need to see more Fassbinder (ASAP) and I look very much forward to watch A Woman Under the Influence and Opening Night (which will happen in the very near future).

I'm also looking very much forward to see La Notte on the big screen in a couple of months. I haven't explored the world of Antonioni yet (only seen Blow-up and The Passenger - both quite amazing, but I have a feeling/hope he has even more to offer), and I don't know exactly what to expect further on (despite having digested two of his films). Exciting.

And I haven't seen Scenes From a Marriage, you know.
